Aphrodisiacs

Asparagus
The long slender stalk of the asparagus has earned it the reputation of a food of love. Asparagus is a food made for sharing! Dip the tender stalks in a buttery sauce and feed it to a friend.

Caviar
It is said that its high zinc content aids and abets the promotion of testosterone, in turn promoting male functionality. This, along with the luxurious sensation of the delicate eggs popping on the tongue stimulates sexual desire.

Oysters
Oysters are probably the best known aphrodisiac and, not wishing to go into too much detail, this mollusc is thought to resemble the female private parts.

Champagne
Champagne means celebration, luxury, indulgence and surely a drink to which lovers owe so much. Throughout history it has been considered the ‘drink of love’ where the bubbles go straight to the head, disarming, arousing and lowering inhibitions.

Truffles
Truffles were well known to the Romans as a powerful aphrodisiac but after the fall of the empire, the magic of the truffle disappeared, only to be rediscovered in the 18th century when the erotic powers attributed to it were thought to be miraculous. There's no doubt the earthy, musky scent of the rare truffle which sends the senses wild, arousing body and mind.

Chocolate
The consummate aphrodisiac, chocolate is arguably the greatest food of love. For centuries it has been reputed to have qualities which increase sexual appetite.

Onions
Strange as it might seem, onions have enjoyed a reputation as a food of love since prehistoric times. They are mentioned in Hindu texts on the art of lovemaking and the ancient Greeks, the Romans and Arabs all bore testimony to onions as a potent sexual enhancer. Egyptian priests at the time of the Pharaohs were forbidden onions in their diet because of the potential effect and in France newlyweds were offered onion soup the morning after their wedding to restore their libido.

Figs
It is said that it was Cleopatra’s favourite fruit and she consumed great quantities. It was the ancient Greeks who celebrated the midsummer harvest of the fig with a frenzied ritual of copulation.

Banana
It is suggested that the banana holds an enzyme which, when consumed, heightens male sexual function.
